Here are a few of my
favourite recipes; some have become a standby over the years and
a few are newer recipes that I have tried and really like. I hope
you will enjoy them also.
Note: Each recipe will open in a new window.
Sunshine Salad - a jelly salad with pineapple that everyone seems to enjoy whenever I serve it.Seven Layer Casserole - this is a casserole that my Mother often served Christmas Eve. It was easy to keep warm in the oven as various family members arrived home for Christmas.
Whipped Turnip Casserole - this is a dish that has become a tradition at Christmas. Even people who do not normally like turnip (me included) enjoy this casserole.
English Beef Pot Pie - this recipe is from the Rival Crock-Pot Cook Book. It is very tasty with a wonderful biscuit topping.
Beef Hash - this is another recipe from the Rival Crock-Pot Cook Book. I really enjoy this meal with pickled red cabbage or pickled beets, etc. You can add other vegetables as you wish and you have a nourishing meal.
Macaroni and Cheese Bake - this has always been one of my favourite casseroles - it does beat Kraft Dinner!
Scotch Scones- this is a recipe that a friend gave me some years ago - very easy to make.
Tea Biscuits - there is nothing like a hot Tea Biscuit or two out of the oven! This recipe is from my old Kate Aitken's Cook Book which has been used many times.
Lemon Loaf - this recipe has been used many times by my family members. The loaf is easy to make and can also be frozen if you wish. It is also very tasty!
Never Fail Pie Pastry - this is a recipe my Mother had for many years. Whenever I serve pie or give one to a friend, I am always complimented on the pastry.
Fresh Apple Pie - this recipe is also from my Kate Aitken's Cook Book - it was last published in 1964. There is nothing like a piece of Apple Pie to finish off a meal. I use the pastry recipe listed above.
Mincemeat Pie - this has always been part of our Christmas Dinner, but of course, it can be served at any time of the year.
"Kraft Holiday Homecoming" Recipe Book
The following five recipes are from a recipe book titled "Kraft Holiday Homecoming" which was published in 1995 and is no longer in print. I would like to thank Kraft Canada for their permission to use their recipes on my web site. I made recipes from this book for my late sister and myself when she lived next door to me. Some of the recipes became our favourites.
Bacon Breakfast Casserole - this is a wonderful casserole. I haven't made it much lately as it is a lot for one person. I haven't tried freezing a portion or two but I don't know of any reason why one couldn't do so.Cheesy Rice and Broccoli - My sister was always a big fan of Velveeta cheese. This is a recipe I made a few times for us - you can serve it with any meat dish or by itself as a meatless entrée. Of course the cheese would provide the protein.
Greens With Pear and Pecan - This salad looks rather fancy but it is actually easy to prepare; it is a nice change from the usual tossed salad that I would likely 'throw together'.
Cinnamon 'N' Apple Wafers - this recipe is a great finger food and I would think it could be quite popular with children. Just add a tossed salad and you have a nutritious meal.
Cool Cucumber-Dill Dip - I frequently make this dip and make a vegetable tray to go along with it. I have had a lot of compliments on the dip and it is so easy to make.
Kraft "what's cooking" Magazine
July 18, 2007. I have been getting the magazine "what's cooking" from kraftcanada.com this past year. I have been trying out some new and wonderful recipes from the magazines and many have become a favourite. I will put links (from Kraft Canada) to a few of the recipes - I hope you like them also.
