Welcome

Gail's Cornucopia

January, 2004

I have wanted for a long time to have a personal web site. Why? I guess the answer is I enjoy a challenge and I wanted to learn more about the language of the web. I wanted to be able to write my pages using HTML (HyperText Markup Language) as opposed to relying on a program to do this for me. My big question was: "What will be the focus of the web site?" I am not an expert (nor close to it!) in any particular subject; thus the idea of different topics and therefore "Gail's Cornucopia".

I am now retired from nursing; obviously, the world of computers is one of my interests. My other interests include sports, music, and woodworking. I have kept the design of the site simple in keeping with my personality; I am a "plain Jane" type of person. I hope you enjoy looking through the pages on my web site and find some useful information along the way. If these pages give you some enjoyment for a few moments, then my effort has been worth it.

Greetings To All

Greetings from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It is July 17, 2011 as I write this. Not a great deal has changed since my last greeting a couple of years ago. I seem to have less energy and less time for computer work or anything else. I think some of this is due to depression and much of it is due to stress. I was attending a weekly Breakfast Club with my cousins - with the exception of one cousin, they had become my support since I no longer have any surviving immediate family members. However, there is one individual in this circle of cousins who is a dictator, a huge trouble maker, a liar, egotistical, ........Need I continue! He has caused more problems and heartache for myself and others. He has ruined the chance of further Family Reunions. He has ruined Breakfast Club. He can take the credit for not getting the Family History documented in a timely and accurate manner. Oh, guess what his profession is .................he is a PRIEST! He is no more a Christian than my little toe but he is a former Anglican Priest, now a Roman Catholic Priest. He makes no bones about the fact he thinks he is better than the rest of us. God help the Roman Catholic Church. He tore a few strips off me in front of other family members and in a public place (the restaurant where we met for breakfast) last year. It wouldn't have been quite so bad except almost every word coming out of his mouth was a lie. When I or anyone else tried to stop him - he kept telling us to keep quiet.

I have gone through my web pages and made a few changes - I removed the page on'Computer Links and helpful information' - I can't keep up with all of the constant changes in technology. I now run Gallery 3 instead of Gallery 2 and no longer have some music or videos in Gallery. I have tried to update any links.

If you allow Flash files to run on your computer, you will see a short Flash animation at the top of this page before the first paragraph. I call this little movie 'Seasons'. I have very recently discovered and purchased the program 'FantaMorph'. You can read about the program here.

I continue to get a lot of enjoyment from my computer - I try to keep my web pages updated as time permits and I have received some very nice comments from friends. I have wondered about looking at a CMS (Content Management System) for my site and have briefly looked at Drupal and Joomla. I have also worked on another site using WordPress (which I now use for my blogging software) as a CMS. Unfortunately, family illnesses and deaths have taken up much of my time the past few years. Sadly, this is a part of one's life and the aging process. Hopefully I will at some point have a little more time in the future. I still like the look of these pages but I know the style of web pages are changing. I do like Joomla but I know there is a steep learning curve and I don't have the energy at present to tackle this task. I am comfortable working with WordPress - my next step may be combining my blog and web pages using WordPress
