Welcome

Gail's Cornucopia

Greetings To All

Greetings from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It is August 9, 2009 as I write this. I can't believe almost a year has gone by since I last updated my greeting. This past year has been very trying - I find I am finally starting to get some energy back since first being diagnosed with hypothyroidism. The computer took a back seat to household chores and much of those chores never got done. I hope I don't go through that feeling too often. I have never felt so tired and lazy as I did the past months. For much of the time, I was unable to do more than one task in a day. Fortunately that is changing and has been for about a month. I was told by a friend that it could take about a year before I started feeling good again. Hopefully I can get more computer work done come this fall and winter.

This summer hasn't been too hot thank goodness but we have had our share of rain. I don't mind the rain but I have decks and a ramp to be stained and the weather hasn't been cooperating. Along with some wet weather, we have had some cooler temperatures - neither are condusive to staining. It is getting the time of year when I start to feel frustrated about some of the outside work not getting done. I do have a chap scheduled to do some tasks but I can't blame him for the weather. He and his wife are supposed to come Tuesday but guess what the weather forecast is!

Since the passing of my last surviving sibling in August, 2008, I have not had much contact with my nieces. They didn't even bother to call or send a Christmas card. The youngest one who lives here is too busy looking for a man even though she has three children. They should be her priority but she doesn't see it that way - she thinks her needs come first. The children really don't have much of a future to look forward to. I can guarantee I will see the youngest niece if she needs money - guess what my response will be.

On a more positive note, I have been attending Breakfast Club with my cousins every Monday morning - they have become my support group since I don't have any surviving members of my immediate family. I enjoy getting out with them once a week.

If you allow Flash files to run on your computer, you will see a short Flash animation at the top of this page before the first paragraph. I call this little movie 'Seasons'. I have very recently discovered and purchased the program 'FantaMorph'. You can read about the program here.

January, 2004

I have wanted for a long time to have a personal web site. Why? I guess the answer is I enjoy a challenge and I wanted to learn more about the language of the web. I wanted to be able to write my pages using HTML (HyperText Markup Language) as opposed to relying on a program to do this for me. My big question was: "What will be the focus of the web site?" I am not an expert (nor close to it!) in any particular subject; thus the idea of different topics and therefore "Gail's Cornucopia".

I am now retired from nursing; obviously, the world of computers is one of my interests. My other interests include sports, music, and woodworking. I have kept the design of the site simple in keeping with my personality; I am a "plain Jane" type of person. I hope you enjoy looking through the pages on my web site and find some useful information along the way. If these pages give you some enjoyment for a few moments, then my effort has been worth it.

August 23, 2008

I continue to get a lot of enjoyment from my computer - I try to keep my web pages updated as time permits and I have received some very nice comments from friends. I have wondered about looking at a CMS (Content Management System) for my site and have briefly looked at Drupal and Joomla. I have also worked on another site using WordPress (which I now use for my blogging software) as a CMS. Unfortunately, family illnesses and deaths have taken up much of my time the past few years. Sadly, this is a part of one's life and the aging process. Hopefully I will at some point have a little more time in the future. I still like the look of these pages but I know the style of web pages are changing. I still have visitors looking at my pages so I guess that is what is important for now.
