Greetings To All
Greetings from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It is October 12, 2008 as I write this. We have come through a rainy spring and summer. I had lots of outside staining to do but it just wasn't good weather for staining. Now that we are having some dry weather for about 3 weeks or so - the nights are too cool for staining. It is recommended that one doesn't do outside painting or staining if the temperature is going to drop below 50 degrees F. or 10 degrees C. at night. The staining will have to wait until next year. I did get a new roof put on in September so I am all set for winter. The old shingles were curling and getting worse. I, along with others in this area, spent a lot of time doing grass cutting this summer due to the extra rain fall. There were a few weeks when I was cutting grass twice a week - what a pain! One positive - the lawns never did burn this year - everything stayed lovely and green. We are now enjoying the fall colours - I only wish this splash of colour lasted longer. This is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and the weather is great for getting out and enjoying the views.
On a sad note - I lost my sister Dot on August 30, 2008 to lung cancer. She lived for 6 months from the time she was diagnosed until her death. Dot had been a heavy smoker for many years and was never able to kick the habit. I am now the only survivng member of my immediate family. I have lost both parents, both sisters, and all of my brother-in-laws. My sister Dot lived on this earth a total of 2 more days than my oldest sister did which is rather an eerie thought. Because of Dot's illness and death, and a couple of medical issues of my own - I haven't done much on my web site lately. Hopefully that will change down the road.
If you allow Flash files to run on your computer, you will see a short Flash animation at the top of this page before the first paragraph. I call this little movie 'Seasons'. I have very recently discovered and purchased the program 'FantaMorph'. You can read about the program here.

I have wanted for a long time to have a personal web site. Why? I guess the answer is I enjoy a challenge and I wanted to learn more about the language of the web. I wanted to be able to write my pages using HTML (HyperText Markup Language) as opposed to relying on a program to do this for me. My big question was: "What will be the focus of the web site?" I am not an expert (nor close to it!) in any particular subject; thus the idea of different topics and therefore "Gail's Cornucopia".
I am now retired from nursing; obviously, the world of computers is one of my interests. My other interests include sports, music, and woodworking. I have kept the design of the site simple in keeping with my personality; I am a "plain Jane" type of person. I hope you enjoy looking through the pages on my web site and find some useful information along the way. If these pages give you some enjoyment for a few moments, then my effort has been worth it.

I continue to get a lot of enjoyment from my computer - I try to keep my web pages updated as time permits and I have received some very nice comments from friends. I have wondered about looking at a CMS (Content Management System) for my site and have briefly looked at Drupal and Joomla. I have also worked on another site using WordPress (which I now use for my blogging software) as a CMS. Unfortunately, family illnesses and deaths have taken up much of my time the past few years. Sadly, this is a part of one's life and the aging process. Hopefully I will at some point have a little more time in the future. I still like the look of these pages but I know the style of web pages are changing. I still have visitors looking at my pages so I guess that is what is important for now.
