Welcome

Gail's Cornucopia

Greetings To All

Greetings from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It is September 30, 2007 as I write this and the season of Autumn is now upon us - this is my favourite time of the year. I do enjoy the cooler temperatures although we are still having some warmer temperatures at present. Like most other folks, I also enjoy the fall colours with the leaves turning. Unfortunately this part of nature is all too short. The colourful scenery lasts only a very few short weeks before the leaves fall to the ground. Fortunately I don't have a lot of leaves to rake although this will change in the years to come as my maple tree out front continues to grow.

December 5, 2007 The weather tells us we are definitely into winter even though we are still in autumn according to the calendar. We have already had a fair amount of snow, ice and quite cold temperatures. I decided this year to have my driveway ploughed out and I will do the rest of the snow clearing (sidewalk, ramp, back decks). The plough has already been here 4 times so I think I will be getting my money's worth this year.

If you allow Flash files to run on your computer, you will see a short Flash animation at the top of this page before the first paragraph. The animation isn't perfect but this is the first one I have done. The animation is a couple of photos I took here in Peterborough on Thanksgiving Day 2003 if memory serves me correctly. The first one is a photo of the Peterborough Lift Lock which was opened in 1904. The second photo was taken at Nicholl's Oval Park and shows the Otonabee River which runs through our city. You can see more of these photos in my Coppermine Photo Gallery - just click on 'Photos Videos Music' in the Navigation Bar to the left.

I have wanted for a long time to have a personal web site. Why? I guess the answer is I enjoy a challenge and I wanted to learn more about the language of the web. I wanted to be able to write my pages using HTML (HyperText Markup Language) as opposed to relying on a program to do this for me. My big question was: "What will be the focus of the web site?" I am not an expert (nor close to it!) in any particular subject; thus the idea of different topics and therefore "Gail's Cornucopia".

I am now retired from nursing; obviously, the world of computers is one of my interests. My other interests include sports, music, and woodworking. I have kept the design of the site simple in keeping with my personality; I am a "plain Jane" type of person. I hope you enjoy looking through the pages on my web site and find some useful information along the way. If these pages give you some enjoyment for a few moments, then my effort has been worth it.

Gail

What's New?

Changes

Dec. 5, 2007.

- I am now using Gallery 2 to display my photos and video clips. I also have a few selections of music in Gallery.
- I have removed 'My Playground' page - the project is simply too outdated now. I started with the idea of testing a few php scripts for photo albums. However, now there are so many ways to get your photos on the web - I find it impossible to keep up.

Additions

Dec. 5, 2007

- Gallery 2 Album - I have added some more music files (Kate Smith) and some more photo albums.
